Dow Jones Sustainability Indices
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) are a family of global stock price indices developed by Dow Jones & Company of the U.S. and RobecoSAM of Switzerland. They are global indices for evaluating and selecting companies showing outstanding sustainability performance in terms of the environment, social dimensions, and governance.
Toppan has been included in the DJSI World Index for four years in a row and has recently been named to the DJSI Asia Pacific Index for two years in a row.
MSCI ESG Leaders Indexes
The MSCI World ESG Leaders Index is a world-renowned, socially responsible investing index developed by MSCI Inc. of the U.S. Toppan continues to be included in the index as a company demonstrating outstanding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index (WIN)
The MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index (WIN) has been selected by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) of Japan as an index for ESG investing in Japanese stocks. Toppan continues to be included in the index in recognition of its performance in gender diversity metrics, such as the average tenure of female employees and the percentages of female employees in the total workforce, pool of new hires, and management.
FTSE 4Good Index
The FTSE4Good Global Index is a series of stock price indices developed by FTSE Russell. FTSE Russell surveys the world’s leading companies for environmental, social, and governance performance, including labor standards in the supply chain. Based on evaluation of sustainability performance, Toppan continues to be named in the index as a company meeting the criteria stipulated by FTSE Russell.
FTSE Blossom Japan Index
The FTSE Blossom Japan Index is designed to measure the performance of Japanese companies that demonstrate outstanding environmental, social, and governance practices. This index has been adopted as a passive operating benchmark for the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) of Japan. Toppan meets the selection criteria and continues to be included in the index.
Toppan participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a not-for-profit charity collaboratively operated by institutional investors. The CDP requires top companies by market capitalization in major countries to disclose their environmental strategies and greenhouse gas emissions. Toppan’s score for the “Climate Change” program is B.
S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index
The S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index is an environment-related index recently selected by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) of Japan. It was developed by S&P Dow Jones Indices and Japan Exchange Group. Toppan is recognized in the index as a Japanese company demonstrating appropriate disclosure of environment-related information and a high level of carbon efficiency (low carbon emissions per unit of revenue).
Ethibel EXCELLENCE Investment Register
The Ethibel EXCELLENCE Investment Register was established in 1992 by a Belgian non-profit organization engaged in screenings of ethical investment funds (socially responsible investing). Its influence extends beyond Europe to global markets. Toppan has been included in the register as company demonstrating outstanding corporate social responsibility performance.
The ECPI Index family has been developed by ECPI, an investment management advisory firm based in Luxemburg and Milan that specializes in sustainable investment. Toppan has been selected as a company whose sustainability activities meet the given criteria for inclusion in ECPI’s family of industry sector-, region-, and theme-specific ESG indexes.
Sompo Sustainability Index
The Sompo Sustainability Index was established by Sompo Asset Management Co., Ltd. as an ESG investment index composed of around 300 companies with records of outstanding performance in ESG metrics. Toppan has been selected to the index for nine consecutive years since it was launched in 2012.
EcoVadis is a France-based ratings platform for assessing corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability in supply chains based on the four themes of environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Toppan’s performance in the areas of environment and sustainable procurement in particular has been rated highly by EcoVadis, resulting in Toppan scoring in the top 25% of companies assessed and being awarded a Silver medal for the second consecutive year.

The Fiscal 2020 Nadeshiko Brands
An index of companies selected by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) aiming to spur investment in companies and accelerate their diversity initiatives. Investors who seek enhanced corporate value over the medium- to long-term can use the index to find promising TSE-listed companies with outstanding performance in gender equality metrics. METI and TSE have been announcing companies with excellent records of female participation and advancement in the workplace since fiscal 2012.
Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. is one of 45 companies to be included in the index in fiscal 2020, out of a total of listed companies.
TMG Recognition as an Outstanding “Mental Barrier-free” Supporter
A person with a “mental barrier-free” mindset thinks and takes steadfast action to realize a society and environment in which all people, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and parents with young children, are able to participate equally. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) carries out a program to build social momentum for mental barrier-free access by registering and announcing the names of companies that raise awareness on the mental barrier-free mindset as “kokoro-no (mental) barrier-free” supporters.
In fiscal 2019 Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. was recognized as an outstanding supporter that promotes mental barrier-free approaches.
Health & Productivity Management Organization “White 500”
The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has established a Certified Health & Productivity Management Organization Recognition Program. Under this program, METI recognizes excellent enterprises and other organizations that advance health and productivity management by assessing organizations for their engagement in initiatives to address healthcare-related issues in communities and promote the health-promotion activities recommended by the Nippon Kenko Kaigi (Japan Health Conference).
Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has been certified as a member of the “White 500,” a select group of health & productivity management organizations in the large enterprise category, for four years running since the launch of the program in 2017.
SAM Sustainability Award
RobecoSAM, a Switzerland-based investment specialist focused on ESG investing, publishes The Sustainability Yearbook (SAM Sustainability Awards) to announce global companies with outstanding sustainability performance ratings based on its economic, environmental, and social assessment criteria.
Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has received the Bronze Class distinction (awarded to companies that meet both of two criteria: a top 10% ranking and a performance rating of 54 or above) in the Commercial Services & Supplies sector for two years in a row.
